| 요약1 | 서울 도심에는 풍부한 역사자원이 있었으나 일제강점기와 한국전쟁기, 그리고 60∼70년대 경제성장기를 지나면서 많이 사라졌다. '화신백화점(和信百貨店)'은 일제강점기에 도심부 중에서도 중심이라 할 수 있는 종각네거리에 우리나라 첫 근대 건축가 '박길룡(朴吉龍)'이 설계했으며 우리나라 자본으로 세워진 첫 '백화점'으로 역사자원으로서 젓분한 보존가치가 있었다. 그러나 1978년 도심재개발구역에 포함되어 결국 1987년 3월에 철거되었다. 이 연구는 화신백화점의 역사적, 건축적 가치를 밝히고 화신이 철거되기까지 일어난 보존에 대한 논의과정을 분석했다. 그 결과 첫째, 역사환경으로서 가치있는 근대 건조물의 보존에 대하여 인식 변화의 계기를 마련해주었다. 둘째, 도시의 계획에 있어서 역사적으로 가치있는 건물을 보존할 수 있는 제도(법)적 장치가 만들어지는데 기여했다. 셋째, 역사환경의 보존은 몇몇 전문가의 의식이나 노력만으로는 되지 않고, 공공(公共)과 시민에게까지 가치 인식이 확산되어야만 한다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. |
| 요약2 | There were rich store of modern historic buildings in old town of Seoul. But many historic modern buildings were demolished during the colonial period, Korea War, and especially in 1960's when the eoconomic growth was at it peak. Hwa-Shin Department Store standing at the corner of Jonggak crossing was an important historic modern building, which was designed by famous Korean architect Park Kil-Ryong and was the first department store founded by the investment of a Korean entrepreneur in the colonial time. It was worth for preservation for both architectural and historic value. However, the building was included as a part of the urban redevelopment plan in 1978 and finally demolished in 1987. This paper investigates historic and architectural value of the demolished building and analyze the discussion for preserving it. The conclusions of the study are as follows: First, the case provided a valuable opportunity to the society to reconsider the value of preserving historical buildings as a historic asset. Second, the case contributed to introducing historic preservation into the planning law. Third, the preservation of the modern building can be achieved not only through the value recognition by the planning professionals, but the sharing of the historical value of the modern building among the general public. |
