| 요약2 | 'The International Idea Competition for Saemangeum Comprehensive Urban Development Concept' introduces alternative approaches of urban design competition such as design workshops, professional symposiums and collaborations with economic analysts. Using qualitative research methods including indirect participant observation, in-depth interview and content analysis, this paper examines the effects of these discriminative approaches on the design concept and quality of the submitted plans and governmental master plans, in terms of development strategy, conceptual urban structure and programs. The research finds that the design workshops contribute to improving concreteness and realizability of the proposals, while the guidance for development directions partially causes a lack of variety of programs. Besides, by affecting the final governmental master plan, the competition contributes to rational and efficient use of national land use. Thus, these new approaches need to be adopted and tested in other urban design competitions. |
