In recent years, home cleaning robots and other types of domestic and service robots have become increasingly familiar in our living environments. This study is the design guidelines for the living space with robots. The study can be applied to the architectural planning and focused on the basic environmental primary factor. The authors focused on space size, specifical distance from the wall in the front direction, position, and distance between an individual as factors affecting individual distance in the limited space. The following three results were obtained: (1) In comparing distances from the side, it was found that when there is little distance in the lateral direction to the side, individual distance also tends to shrink. It was also found that individual distance is affected when the space becomes larger along X- and Y-axes. (2) Effects of posture were also clearly discernable, for it was found that individual distances were significantly reduced for standing subjects as opposed to sitting subjects. (3) In comparing the experiments of this work using a relatively small 6-tatami mat space and experiments done in previous work using a much larger gymnasium, it was found that the size of the space also exerts an influence on the subjects sense of individual distance. |
