| 요약2 | This paper presents a case study of housing development for informal dwellers in Bangkok, Thailand. Community participation and intensive collaboration were important to the success of the upgrading. To make the new houses new homes, features of the informal settlements were transferred to the new houses. Sacred objects provided psychological security, and home-based enterprises sustained life and strengthened social cohesion. However, the community-oriented lifestyle appeared to change to an individualistic lifestyle with the disappearance of spaces which had been informally shared among close-knit groups. The results of this upgrading process should find an application in the re-housing of low-income people in other developing countries. |
