In these days, landmarks of public environment are expected as excellent design elements indicating places for easy wayfinding besides sign system. Sign system has been recognized as a main part of environment information for wayfinding. As frequency and diversity of signs are increasing because of the increase of complcated space, they began to cause confusion or mis-organization. Recently, interior landmarks have been seriously considered as the second environmental information. This study is to evaluate how the shapes of landmarks as visual cues can affect easy wayfinding through VR navigation experiment in order to contribute to constructing design guidelines for wayfinding. For the experimental study, a theoretical study about visual cues for wayfinding performance and field study were preceded. The experiment has been carried out from 2006.12.by 24 subjects in virtual environment. |
