This study surveys and analyzes characteristics of digital life style in residential space of those living in apartments. Based on the survey analysis, this study proposes new ways of designing space of digital home. Survey population is confined to those housewives living in apartments in Busan metropolitan area, and under 50s. The survey questionnaire covers 8 aspects of residential space which are related to changes in digital life style in order to understand its characteristics: family life, dining life, consumption, child education, work life, game-visual, exercise, and usage of residential space. It is expected that there will be various functions performed in future digital home. In addition to traditional types of rooms (bedrooms, living room, kitchen, dining room, and bathroom) that are provided in current apartments, new types of rooms will be needed such as those for working at home, home schooling, digital games and visual entertainments, and exercise. Even though these types of rooms could be accommodated by enlarging residential space of future digital home, it would be a costly alternative that does not take into account of future characteristics of households. Therefore it will be desirable to design some types of rooms that are flexible in utilization with multi-purpose functions. Also, particular attention should be paid on separating space that need be quiet such as those for working at home and home schooling from those digital game and visual entertainments. There should be careful provisions of sound-proof and sound-absorbing system for those types of rooms for digital games and visual entertainments and exercise that would make noise. |
