Human development is achieved through interaction with the environment. Thus, our environment is crucial to our growth and development. In particular, childhood is a critical period as a basis of the overall intellectual, physical, and emotional development. Thus, 'experiential education' through the environment is crucial. A typical space for children's experiential education is 'children's museum.' Although some children's museums in Korea offer experiential exhibitions, most exhibitions are one-sided, one-time events that revolve around play. Thus, there are little educational effects associated with experience. Children's museums should offer book-based facts and diverse experiences using five senses. Also, they should offer self-directed learning and experience with evaluation. Thus, 'affordance design,' which can respond to the behavioral characteristics of each child, is needed. This study is aimed at exploring such museums that offer diverse experiences through sustainable exhibition methods. In particular, Hartson's 'affordance design theory' will be used. It involves changes and interactions based on relationship with the environment. |
