As going through these changes after the industrialization and the rapid economic growth, decrease in birth rate has been working as one of these influential factors that would bring about the population growth, and eventually, because of that, South Korea enters the aging society. It would be necessary to study the special features and tendencies of a space from patient's standpoint, and a proper physical examination flows should be reflected for designing of a geriatric hospital. Thus, this study aims to provide quantitative and subjective data for the proper and efficient traffic flow of senior patients, based on data of patients of a geriatric hospital. This study aims to understand the efficiency of patients' scientific traffic lines and transfer processes which would be affected by these diagnoses made by medical teams, and these 6 geriatric hospitals in South Korea were selected as research subjects. In order to achieve the research goal, the study extracted these required spaces which are used mainly by elderly patients when the patients need to transfer, and in terms of who would use the required spaces, the study excluded both the medical teams and any other users. The study learned that the six geriatric hospitals, the research subjects, made use of the space syntax, basically, to design most of their spaces, and the subjects have built consulting rooms and examination rooms with these central corridors places in between. Such a space design was considered to help the areas of the consulting rooms and the examination rooms in which diagnoses are made and yet, it was also realized that those areas are highly populated due to multiple traffic lines of the medical teams and the patients. |
