Indoor temperature and humidity have direct effects on prevalence rate and death rate of the elderly people. Considering the importance of living room, the purpose of this research is to suggest a custom-made temperature and humidity control system for the elderly by analyzing temperature and humidity sensor data in the living room space. Living room temperature and humidity were measured every 1 minute using the sensor, and the activities of the test subjects were directly recorded in the activity diary by themselves every 10 minutes. The analysis of the elderly in their living rooms revealed that, they spent the longest time a day in living room except for the bedroom where they slept. All the active behaviors which can happen in their living spaces were found to be made in living room. Most of their leisure activities were also made in living room. The analysis of living room temperature data showed that, even if the temperatures were proper for living environment for the elderly, it is desirable to reduce it to some extent, considering the fact that almost all of active behaviors of the elderly take place in living room. Humidity levels in living room were much lower than what is recommended for the elderly. Therefore, it seems urgent to adopt a proper humidity regulating system, given the physiological attributes of the elderly who are not sensitive to humidity. |
