This study is on the architectural characteristics of Culver City by Eric Owen Moss, which has been created by renovating the forsaken factories in Culver City, Los Angeles. Eric Owen Moss became famous by creatively remodeling a city by renovating factories and warehouses in Culver City, which had been forsaken as the result of recession in film industry. The renovated offices of design companies and advertising companies have variety of architectural expression characteristics. The formative characteristics of the Culver City architecture by Moss are transformation by Euclid geometry, transformation by form intrusion, combination of objet and vertical circulation and indigenousness by the expressing previous remains. The spatial characteristics are transformation by intrusion of spatial events, introduction of indoor plaza and colonnade and inter coursing of space. The material characteristics are use of industrial materials and mixing multiple materials. The purpose of this study is exploring such characteristics of Culver City architecture by Eric Owen Moss and analyzing how such characteristics appear and change as time passes by. |
