요약2 Chinese traditional architecture has highly artistic quality and its own unique characteristics of space composition. It is possible to say that the one of the reason for this great cultural achievement is Chinese profound thoughts. The one of the greatest Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu satisfies covert need of other people based on his main idea 'flexibility'. There are many magnificent thought in Taoism such as 'being and non-being create each other' and 'the inactivity nature' etc. Among these ideas, this study figured out spatial characteristics of 'Mixed', 'Constantly changing' and 'Empty' through theoretical consideration on 'being and non-being rely on each other'. Furthermore, intensively studying on Beijing Summer Palace, this study examined how spatial characteristic of 'being and non-being rely on each other' works in Chinese traditional architecture to satisfy personal covert need.
