The significance is getting attention that space be recognized by five senses beyond the limit of the experience by visual and auditory sense owing to the development of various media. On the background of this value of the times is this study. This dissertation is about the extraction of phenomenological character of space seen at Seongyojang in Gangeung through the theory of phenomenological space established by the Western Philosopher Merleau Ponty. The analysis by the approach of his phenomenological spatial elements ? directionality of up and down, depth related to objects, mobility by body movement and temporality by memory and association reveals the following: First, there is a formation of movement along the axes of Front Gate and Middle Gate out of 12 gates. Second, there are the effect of spatial overlapping and the feeling of depth from opening and closing of space with 99 structures. Third, the panorama inside and outside can be seen through vivid movement of the time due to the diverse positions of doors and windows. Fourth, there is the spatial sense of the past and the present being with the application of modern lifestyle to the traditional space by the experience of traditional culture. Like this, this study is to suggest the visual-perceptual experience by senses and the excellence of Seongyojang through Merleau Ponty's phenomenological theory. |
