The purpose of this study is to develop a new church furniture design that can be harmonized with a new architecture of church in regard to new construction of S Church. In order to achieve the above purpose, a design work for church furniture was conducted in parallel with planning step of church construction according to collaborations among an architectural planner, church construction administrator team (of S Church) and a furniture designer. The development of a new church furniture design falls broadly into two steps, i.e. furniture design planning and life-size furniture production. First, the former step (furniture design planning) consisted of preparing a list of furniture goods required for S Church, performing a first-hand design work for liturgical furniture, and collecting or designing interior furniture goods in each room. Next, the latter step (life-size furniture production) consisted of selecting liturgical furniture producer and interior furniture producer, and completing a final design for church furniture by mock-up production and specification deliberation. Conclusively, it was found that this integrative design process for architecture consolidated with furniture contributed to creating a new type of church furniture design that can be harmonized with up-to-date and modern images of church architecture. |
