The rise of creative class is dramatically changing on how we think and live in the 21 century. Creative class is a term made by Richard Florida meaning a specific group of people that uses creativity as the main source such as artists, actors, designers, scientists... that are leading the global economy today. Creative class is effecting our work environment, how we work and where we work, therefore is also effecting workplace designs. However, not much is known about specific design methods for this creative workspace in order to enhance productivity. The purpose of this study is to understand concepts and analyze design methods of common areas of workplace design for the creative class. The scope was limited to common areas due to its increasing importance in workplace design. The researcher first carried out a theoretical search on basic concepts of creative class and defined 4 major characteristics of their workplace which are structural flexibility, fun and play, uncertainty of programs, and casual circulation. According to these characteristics, case studies and analyses were made to find for understanding detailed design methods of common areas. It is hoped that this study is used as a theoretical guideline for understanding and designing workplace for the future. |
