Recently the importance of the elderly facilities and the eco-friendly buildings is on the rise, due to the rapid increase of the aged population and the more and more serious global environment issues, respectively. As South Korea enters rapidly into the aging society, the nation manages to meet the sufficient supply of nursing homes on demand but absurdly lacks the efforts to improve the quality of life for the elderly as well as to advance the functions of the relevant facilities. The theoretical studies showed that the environment-friendly natural elements necessary for the nursing houses are light, air and plants, from which three design elements are obtained: daylighting, natural ventilation and natural landscape. The results suggest that the green concept emerging as a new paradigm should be recognized as a more important one for the elderly who are sensitively affected by the environment, and the architecture planning with the passive design applied should be practiced in the future. |
