The increasing number of the elderly with dementia has caused a great tension to our society, family and individual. Compared with other population, the elderly with dementia require a very sensitive, safe and supportive environment to sustain their qualitative life. In this sense, home-like-setting becomes aware more important, and it's known as a healing space. Besides, as life style change, elderly became remained in a large home after their married children left. In this circumstance, this research attempts to develop an alternative housing plan to show how the existing detached house can be utilized to accommodate elderly with dementia in home-like-setting. A plan was developed on the basis of environment behavior theory for dementia. Eight concepts by Zeisel and Cohen each were applied in developing the plan. This research shows the process of utilizing theory in creating alternative design solution. For the result, it can be used to discuss alternative possibility of living arrangement of the elderly population as a while promoting aging-in-place. |
