요약2 The loss of humanity and cut-and-dried life by materialism in consequence of rapid industrialization and information-oriented trend have required new space of environmentally friendly image. For interior space emotional design factors in which natural elements are imaged by the changing needs in environment have been on the rise. This study analyzes the recognition and emotional images on the expression of natural elements in contemporary commercial interior space; designs of emotional expression of natural elements as a better design factor and how effectively those spaces are recognized. A questionaire survey was conducted with the case of 11 commercial interior spaces where natural elements were used as a main design factor and the information through the questionaire was analyzed. The results are as the following: First, It can be verified again that modern people prefer interior spaces formed with natural elements. Secondly, it turned out that people recognize natural elements in interior spaces under the influence of natural features, finishing materials and forms while colors and lights are not huge factors. Thirdly, it was catched that people felt the nature by direct expression rather than metaphorical and abstract expression of natural elements. Most users of city towers prefer natural environment to artificial one no matter which culture they are in. The desire for being in contact with the nature and enjoying the beauty of it in a city would be a basic instinct, not a passing impulse. Most designers believe that they can give users emotional and physical satisfaction by offering chances of enjoying comfort, rest, views and the like from bringing natural elements into commercial interior spaces. In the future, more concrete designing method, which can be recognized with effect and be easily accessible by users, should be found by the research on the ways to express and convey natural elements based on this research.
