요약2 This paper was conducted to study the eclectic characteristics of the facade of colonial architecture that appeared during the British colonial period in Malaysia. Malaysia went through the British colonial period for 171 years. Thus, the influx of Indo-Saracian and classical styles into Malaysia began. Most British architects working in Malaysia have a lot of experience in eclectic architecture construction in their home countries, making it easier to apply architectural styles suitable for Malaysian climate conditions. This paper mainly conducts research in literature and books, and the scope of the study is a government building during the British colonial period. First, the history, architectural classification, and architectural style of Malaysia’s British colonies were summarized. Next, facade analysis was conducted through case studies. The subjects of the survey were the seven buildings used for administrative purposes during the British colonial period: the Old Railway Station (1886), the National Textile Museum (1896), Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad (1897), Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (1907), the Memorial Library and Museum (1909), the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery (1909) and the Ipoh Town House (1914). Therefore, the analysis was conducted with the components-forms, decorations, materials, patterns and colors of the facade. As a conclusion, firstly, there are some eclectic characteristics shown in the facade components of British colonial architecture. Second, the ‘trend’ flow of architectural styles varies depending on the period. Thirdly, the emergency of necessary architectural structures is seen according to local conditions.
