요약2 The construction of urban cathedrals has been on the rise since the 1980s due to the rapid expansion of the city's size. Urban cathedrals consist of different forms and programs than traditional cathedrals. Unlike the existing cathedral, which shows the form of a building-by-building layout of the main hall and the priest's hall on a large site, the urban cathedral is characterized by a vertical floor layout and a single building due to the narrow site. Urban cathedrals are built on the basis condition of site, appearance, layout characteristics, etc. with small land or vertical hierarchies, and are distinguished from other cathedrals. Recently, cathedrals built in urban areas have gradually reduced the area and increased floor space, making space between buildings smaller. As a result, green space is reduced and distance from adjacent buildings is narrowed, which is disadvantageous to lighting and ventilation and vulnerable to noise. The method and scope of this study is to analyze the eco-friendly planning elements by conducting an on-site survey of eight cathedrals built since 2000 in archidiocese of Seoul. According to this study, the application of eco-friendly elements of urban cathedrals is not well established. In particular, the application of renewable energy, bio-top, and eco-friendly certified materials is very low, indicating the need for eco-friendly design to be introduced from the early stages of construction of the cathedral. As an eco-friendly plan to utilize the land of urban cathedrals, it is necessary to actively utilize the cathedral's yard or piloti space and develop multi-purpose spaces and walking paths linked to internal facilities to community spaces for believers and local residents.
