The purpose of this study was to suggest the direction of residential space planning for people with Spinal Cord Injury by analyzing daily living behavior at home, the characteristics of sub-behavior, the degree of difficulty, and the method of performance. For this purpose, this study conducted a home visit survey and an in-depth interview among the people with spinal cord injury in Seoul metropolitan area who had the first and second degree of disability. Daily living behaviors at home were surveyed based on eating, meal preparation and clean up after meal, sleeping, shower·bathing, washing face·brush teeth, toilet use, dressing/undressing and getting out of home.
As a result, toilet space plan is needed to understand evacuation and urination method of spinal cord-impaired people and bathroom planning is also required to reflect the characteristics of the behavior of showering after bowel movements due to the difficulty of bowel movements. People with spinal cord injury were found to be burdened by transfer wheelchairs to beds. For spinal cord-disabled persons who are suffering from the use of upper body to use upper body, it is important to consider that even if space is available for wheelchair access and activity, it may be difficult to perform detailed actions. |
