AbstractThe purpose of this study is to closely review the transformation of the column which reveals most definitely the meaning of order, one of the components of the indoor space in the aspect of order; then to analyse the meaning of the peculiar order of the forms of the column. In order to achieve the purpose, in the first place, with the objects of the column which represent an age or style from ancient times to the present, changes of the symbolic expressions, functional features, and structural system for each age respectively were reviewed through some documents and analysed by cases; and the symbolic, formative meaning, significance and limit of the pillar forms were closely reviewed. Findings are as follows: First, structural column is a center of the order system. Second, according to the demand of the times and regional features, the expressional meaning of the pillar and the method to express order differ. Third, to acknowled ge geometric order system and ornament expression changing in simple resemble pattern. Fourth, a meaning as a medium of communication between domains is being gradually emphasized. |
