Generally with respect to daylight the facade has to provide a protection and supply function. It has to be ensured that the users in the spaces are protected from glare coming from the facade for instance by penetration of direct sunlight into the workspace areas. In addition the facade should supply the space with a sufficient level of daylight aiming at a minimized energy demand for electric lighting while at the same time keeping solar gains at an optimum (maximization in winter, minimization in summer). Looking at conventional room heights with standard glazed facades it can generally be assumed that a perimeter of 5 to 7m from the facade into the direction of the depth of the room can be considered to be sufficiently provided with day lighting. Areas deeper in the building, as for instance deep open plan offices, are in contrast to be lit by electric light completely. |
