There is an increasing demand for higher quality office buildings. A double skin facade (DSF) which has variety merits (energy saving, protection from external noise and wind load and it's high tech image) is regarded as alternative to satisfy social needs. However, there is too little information on their performances (energy, daylighting, thermal comfort, ventilation) depending on controls and configurations (Oesterle et al, 2001). Thus, this study aims to explore performance of the DSF with three different control strategies. First strategy is rule-based approach used in the real building operation (Control level 1). Second strategy is modified version of Control level 1 for better performance by a veteran operator (Control level 2). Third strategy is optimal control of louver slat (Control level 3) which changes that of Control level 2. It was found that the effect of these 3 control strategies was significant in winter. The main reason of this results are subjected to an airflow mode that reduce cooling loads efficiently. On the other hand, it was shown that the effect of optimal slat control (rule-based vs. optimal) had slight influence on energy use. |
