요약2 During the last several decades, double-skin systems have been widely introduced. Double-skin systems have advantages of reduction of asymmetric thermal discomfort, energy savings, glare avoidance, etc. Nowadays, several whole building simulation tools (esp-r, EnergyPlus, TRNSYS, TAS, IES VE, IDA ICE, VA114, BSim, etc.) are used for assessment of thermal and energy performance of Double Skin Facade (DSF) buildings. The aforementioned tools are well-posed for energy performance assessment of conventional systems & buildings but there is an ‘accountability’ issue whether such tools can accurately describe the transient heat and mass transfer phenomena occurring in the complex 3D geometry of DSFs. The paper describes an empirical comparison of EnergyPlus results with measurement. A series of experiments were conducted (open cavity, closed cavity for airflow and thermal simulation). In the paper it is shown that the EnergyPlus simulation model is accurate enough for thermal modeling, but there is significant difference in cavity airflow between the measurement and simulation prediction. The paper aims to investigate what causes such difference and what should be considered in modeling of DSF when using the EnergyPlus tool.
