The present study was conducted to evaluate the cooling capacity of a thermally activated light shelf (TALS), which can be regarded as radiant cooling panel integrated with light shelf. A mock-up test chamber and Physibel simulation model were developed, considering that the upper and lower surfaces of TALS are exposed to room air and cooling load. Mock-up test results showed that the cooling capacity increases from 57.5 to 82 W/㎡ when the additional cooling load is applied to the upper surface of TALS. As the developed simulation model showed a good agreement with the experimental results, several simulations were performed to investigate the TALS cooling capacity under different cooling load and chilled water conditions. Cooling capacity was 56.1~98.3 W/㎡ while the temperature difference between room air and mean water temperature (Δθ) was 9.4~15.2 K. Further studies are suggested to achieve a sufficient cooling capacity of TALS without excessive temperature difference Δθ. |
