Exterior insulation and finishing system (EIFS) is a construction method that covers the entire exterior of a building such as the exterior walls and roofs with thermal insulation. In addition to efficiently blocking heat bridges in buildings, EIFS is an energy-efficient construction method due to low heat loss, excellent air tightness, and insulation. In Europe, systems similar to EIFS are known as External Wall Insulation System (EWIS) and External Thermal Insulation Composite System (ETICS). EIFS can be divided into dry and wet according to the construction method used. To reduce the energy consumption of buildings, regulations for thermal transmittance has continuously been strengthened. To satisfy such building regulations, EIFS that have high thermal performance are widely used in Korea. However, a Korean standard for EIFS performance considering weather resistance does not exist. A thorough literature review shows lack of study on EIFS performance considering weather resistance, and examined according to a standard. In this study, both wet and dry EIFS walls were manufactured, and the weather resistance of EIFS walls were tested. Based on standard of European Organization for Technical Assessment (EOTA) - ETAG 004 Guideline for European Technical Approval of ETICS with Rendering, the test procedures for the EIFS walls were conducted to the heat-cold and heat-rain cycles. Afterwards, visual inspection, impact strength, and bond strength were evaluated. |
