The number of railway noise barriers is increasing mainly in urban residential areas as a solution for civil complaints on railway noise. Detailed specifications for performance, test criteria, etc., for existing noise barriers tend to differ, and in South Korea, specific standards for performance tests for railway noise barriers have not yet been developed. As intensifying environmental standards are necessitating high-performance noise barriers, and as the importance of noise barrier performance and management is increasing in accordance with noise barriers' lifespans, performance test standards for railway noise barriers will need to be thoroughly investigated. In this study, domestic and international performance standards were examined to develop effective indoor test standards for railway noise barriers for the South Korean railway system. BS EN 16272 was reviewed to develop indoor test methods for determining acoustic performance of noise barriers in a laboratory. We proposed test methods and criteria for transmission loss and sound absorption rates, and an installation method for noise barrier specimens. |
