Today there has been a significant increase of energy consumption in domestic heating and cooling system. Heat pumps are widely used in various types of facilities including office buildings, public buildings, and campus buildings not only for air-conditioning and heating, but also for cooling and domestic hot water supply. To apply heat pump system to residential building efficiently, it is necessary to evaluate the efficiencies to gauge the performance of devices and processes. Many of these expressions are based on energy efficiency measure. But to assess the utilization efficiency of energy, it is useful to evaluate the exergy efficiencies together. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the energy and exergy performance of heat pump system. To do this, the energy and exergy analysis of heat pump with water storage tank for residential building were performed and the exergy losses for each components of the system are identified. In conclusion, it was found that COP values for heat pump unit and the overall system were 3.4 and 1.68 respectively. Also the exergy efficiencies for heat pump unit and the overall system were 72.1% and 59.8%. |
